Catering for a variety of different dance styles ranging from Beginner’s Ballet to Contemporary to Adult Tap, we have a class to suit you.

Learning with either Teresa Blee or Debbie Johnson, our classes create a comfortable and supportive environment so that you can fulfil your potential as a dancer. Whether learning new techniques, preparing for an exam or rehearsing for an upcoming performance, our lessons are designed so that you are always progressing towards your goals.

Our lessons are tailored to each class: Whilst our Budding Beginners might be found delving inside the magical tales of Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker, our Advanced Foundation students are busy learning the techniques that will best prepare them for a career in dance.

Our Classes

Budding Beginners

Devised by the Royal Academy of Dance and taught by Debbie, we offer a beginner’s ballet class suitable for children between the ages of two and a half and four and a half. We ensure these ballet classes are a fun way of learning to dance: these classes will typically have a theme or storyline to help engage the children and help them feel involved. These classes develop physical skills, stamina, creativity, expression and musicality using a range of movements and musical styles. This class also introduces pupils to basic tap steps.

Ballet

Following the syllabus devised by the Royal Academy of Dance, our ballet classes are taught by Teresa and consist of: classical ballet, free movement and character. Our graded classes are taught from pre-primary all the way to Grade 8. At approximately Grade 4 level, selected children are given the opportunity to study the syllabus of Intermediate Foundation, Intermediate Ballet and Advanced Foundation. This is designed for students who wish to have a career in dance.

Modern Theatre Dance

At Teresa Blee Dance, we offer our modern theatre dance classes to students from Primary to Intermediate. Modern is a rhythmic dance style often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. If you are planning to go into the dance profession, we suggest you participate in our Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate classes which we offer.

Contemporary

This is based on the ISTD Contemporary Syllabus and aimed to introduce students to the fundamentals and vocabulary of contemporary technique as well as improvisation. Contemporary dance combines the strong and controlled leg work of ballet with the technique of modern. It works very well alongside ballet classes.

Tap

Considered one of the most enjoyable forms of dance, tap is an essential skill for professional dancers to have. Taught by Debbie Johnson, we teach tap classes from Beginners to Intermediate following the syllabus devised by The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance.

Adult Classes

We offer classes in tap and ballet for adults. Catering for complete beginners, those who did classes as a child as well as those with a bit more experience. These are a great way of keeping the brain active as well as keeping fit and flexible and are an excellent way of meeting like-minded friends. In addition to our weekly classes, optional trips to the theatre are regularly arranged.

Silver Swans

Devised by the RAD, these classes are designed for the over 50s. Whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced dancer or did a bit of ballet as a child, all are welcome to try our Silver Swans Classes. These classes will help to improve your mobility, posture, coordination and energy levels. Classes are specially designed to be low-impact and easy on joints. Ballet and dance are also very social activities and can be a great way to meet new people with a similar passion.

Exams

We also carry out exams several times throughout the year to encourage the students to realise their full potential. Exams are a great way of creating goals and marking progress throughout the syllabus. Exams are taken from Pre-Primary upwards. Our exam results are very consistent with the highest mark of Distinction being regularly achieved by our students: over 80% in ISTD and above 75% in RAD examinations.

Progressing Ballet Technique

This is a revolutionary programme for ballet teachers and students and helps train muscle memory so that students achieve their personal best in their ballet training. PBT focuses on core stability, weight placement and alignment and with regular practise will enhance the students’ training. These equipment-based classes are encouraged for all students aiming to improve their ballet technique.
