Teresa Blee Dance was founded in 1986, growing over the past 30 years to now teach over 140 pupils each week.

At Teresa Blee Dance we offer a complete curriculum of ballet, modern, tap and contemporary, with many of these lessons available to both children and adults. Classes are taught at one of a number of venues in and around Helston.

We are a fun and caring community, nurturing both the young and the young-at-heart to achieve their full potential. We aim to keep you fit and healthy throughout life, creating friendships and memories along the way.

As a pupil of the school there are frequent opportunities to both perform in public and take part in examinations. We are proud to show off all our dancers at Teresa Blee Dance, whether that be in public around Cornwall or at one of our gala performances at the Epworth Hall.

Our Teachers

Teresa Blee Dance is an approved dance school with both the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance (ISTD). All of our teachers are fully DBS checked and undertake regular child protection training.

Teresa Blee

Teresa grew up in Redruth and learnt to dance throughout her childhood. She always aspired to become a dance teacher, and after leaving school made the move to London to train at the prestigious Stella Mann College. After graduating with her Teaching Diploma and ISTD Teaching Associates in Ballet, Modern and National, Teresa made the move back to the Duchy and founded Teresa Blee Dance in 1986.

Teresa is a registered teacher with both the RAD and the ISTD, is licensed to teach Silver Swans and is registered as a teacher of Progressing Ballet Technique. She regularly travels to London for the latest training from the RAD.

Teresa currently teaches Pre-Primary to Advanced Foundation ballet, as well as Progressing Ballet Technique, Adult Ballet and Silver Swans.

Debbie Johnson

Debbie trained at the London College of Dance where she gained a First Class Teaching Diploma, and has additionally studied Scene Painting and Prop Making at the Coventry Centre for the Performing Arts. She has worked as a professional dancer across Europe, including in Greece and Italy.

As a teacher, Debbie has experience at numerous dance schools across the UK, and has been teaching at Teresa Blee Dance for more than 25 years. She is a registered teacher with the ISTD, and has ISTD Teaching Associates in Modern and Ballet and Level 4 certificates in Tap and National. Debbie also has an NVQ Level 3 in Childcare Learning and Development.

Debbie currently teaches Beginner’s Ballet, Modern, Tap, Adult Tap and Contemporary.

Additionally, our students have gained places and studied at some of the country’s leading and most prestigious dance institutions. We take a great deal of pride in their accomplishments as they continue to represent Teresa Blee Dance wherever their careers may take them. Here are just a few of our success stories:

Sapphire Sumpter joined us aged 3 and excelled in all of her Ballet, Tap and Modern exams. She took part in all school productions and volunteered as a class assistant. She successfully auditioned for the Royal Ballet Junior Associates in the South West in 2010, before gaining promotion to the Royal Ballet Mid Associates in 2012. In 2014 she joined the Young Dancers Academy and the Royal Ballet Mid Associates in London. In 2020 Sapphire graduated from Rambert School.

Tom Pickard was a student of the school for over 10 years taking exams in Ballet, Modern and Tap, volunteering as a class assistant and taking part in many school productions. Before graduating from the school, he achieved his Intermediate Modern qualification before graduating with a BA(Hons) in Dance and Masters in Dance Performance from Chichester University. He has toured the UK as a professional dancer and has co-founded the Replica Dance Company.
